Great first column, Jim! I'm curious about the divide between fintech companies that simply want to simplify the way a consumer connects with a traditional lender (as with Rocket mortgage, which I've used), and those that are putting up money (opm, of course) and, essentially, taking on the same risk as traditional companies (the Root story you tell). Doesn't traditional finance have a jump on these newbies? After all, they've been examining risk for decades, and already have access to capital. If they are already hiring fintech whiz kids, and Fintech is taking on all the legacy problems that weigh down their competitors, why should one invest in these new companies?
I really enjoyed reading the first edition of the newsletter. I have not seen this kind of coverage in other venues. Great information.
Terrific debut ! Fresh, informative and breezily written . Congrats!
