Robinhood's Customer Service Screws Up Again
The failures of Robinhood’s customer service became infamous during the 2021 Gamestop Götterdämerung. In May, citing a New Yorker feature, FIN noted that:
Robinhood outsourced its customer service in 2016 to a company called Voxpro, located in Ireland. Voxpro’s poorly paid employees didn’t have the licensing or certification to deal with investors’ problems. In 2017, Robinhood made the conscious decision to eliminate the option for its users to call and speak to anyone.
In July, FIN labeled Robinhood’s negligence part of a “culture of contempt” that infects too many fintech companies.
Today the company just kept on being itself. Within a few minutes, countless numbers of customers received emails telling them that their 2021 tax forms were available—and then that they would be receiving no tax documents.
It took a few hours, but then this “clarification” arrived:
You may have received a notification earlier today that you will not be receiving tax documents from us. This email was sent in error due to a technical issue. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
It’s hard to fathom why customers don’t leave this company in droves.
I wonder if those customers who closed their Robinhood accounts in 2021 will receive 1099s in the mail since they no longer have the ability to log in. Glad I saved my confirms.
